Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the tremendous staff of the City Channel as well as celebrate its 35th birthday; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, August 29th, 2017 "City Channel Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, City Channel Pittsburgh is celebrating today its 35th birthday; and,

WHEREAS, to commemorate and underscore the momentous nature of this milestone, it is imperative for us to understand the significance of the channel; and,

WHEREAS, the idea of Government Access Television is only 40 years old, so Pittsburgh has been on the forefront of providing City residents with an opportunity to view government in action; and,

WHEREAS, the channel provides an indispensable civic service by not only allowing residents to follow governmental processes, but proactively encouraging government transparency; and,

WHEREAS, by televising Council's Regular and Standing Committee meeting, Public Hearings, Post Agendas, Mayoral conferences, and so much more, the City Channel alleviates the burden to City residents who wish to be civically engaged; and,

WHEREAS, staffed by David Finer, Alexander Fisher, Bill Lamar, and Cristy Halerz Schmidt, who share more than 70 years of experience amongst themselves, the City Channel is able to produce high quality work with the help of state of the art technology the City acquired between Spring of 2015 and Fall of 2016; and,

WHEREAS, all optimization efforts took place without the interruption of regularly scheduled live and recorded televised meetings because of the stellar City Channel team that we have in place; and,

WHEREAS, residents and all individuals interested in viewing City Channel Pittsburgh content may do so live on Comcast channels 13 &14, as well as 44 & 45 on Verizon, content may also be viewed online via the City's legistar website, as well as our youtube channel; and,
