Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sheraden for 115 years of service to the community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, June 11, 2017, to be "Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sheraden Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sheraden was officially founded on January 16, 1902 and is celebrating 115 years of service to the community at a special worship ceremony to be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 with The Reverend Kurt Kusserow, bishop of the Southwestern PA Synod of the ELCA, leading their celebration; and,

 

WHEREAS, the cornerstone of the Church was laid in 1904 and completed and dedicated in 1905 with the Reverend Mollenauer accepting the call to be their first Pastor; and,

 

WHEREAS, the present Church building located at 3102 Sherwood Avenue in Sheraden was dedicated on February 8, 1959 and is currently pastored by the Rev. John J. Gropp, Rev. Beth L. Siefert, Rev. Paul F. Koch and Rev. Melba T. Dibble; and,

 

WHEREAS, Trinity is a member of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Pittsburgh Lutheran United Ministries (PLUM) and a member of West End Christian Ministries (WECM); and,

 

WHEREAS, members serve the Lord within the Congregation and through volunteer services in many ways, such as hosting a community Halloween Party, Breakfast with Santa and a “Souper Bowl Sunday”, held on Super Bowl Sunday to raise money and collect non-perishable food items for local food banks, and during Lenten Season, they hold their yearly fish fry; and,

 

WHEREAS, Trinity participates in monthly Community Dinners, sponsored by WECM and over the years has provided a meeting place for scouting troops, Meals on Wheels, Recovery Programs, Baseball Association meetings and Dartball Leagues; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sheraden for 115 years of service to the community; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, June 11, 2017, to be “Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sheraden Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
