Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 23, 2017, to be "Sheptytsky Arms Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Sheptytsky Arms is a housing facility owned by the Ukrainian Catholic Diocese of Saint Josephat in Parma, Ohio, to carry out the mandate of Jesus Christ to care for the less fortunate, the needy, and the afflicted; and,

 

WHEREAS, Sheptytsky Arms provides clean, decent, and secure apartments for the elderly of limited means and for the handicapped, operating under the rules conveyed by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development; and,

 

WHEREAS, Sheptytsky Arms is located on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River in Brighton Heights. Sheptytsky Arms provides forty-nine rental units in one-bedroom and efficiency apartments; and,

 

WHEREAS, Sheptytsky Arms provides social and spiritual services to its residents, and speakers are often invited to share coffee and spend time with the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, Sheptytsky Arms offers weekly religious services to its residents, including vespers, mass, and feasts. Sheptytsky Arms also holds community bingo days which serve as fundraisers and are open to the public; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 23, 2017, to be “Sheptytsky Arms Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
