Title

Resolution authorizing the City of Pittsburgh to submit an application to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP) for the Wightman Park Rehabilitation Project.

Body

Whereas, Wightman Park in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh has not seen upgrades for more than twenty years; and,

Whereas, local firm Pashek Associates, through robust community process, designed the Wightman Park Master Plan to not only improve but also remake the park for purposes of accessibility, neighborhood needs, and green infrastructure; and,

Whereas, the City of Pittsburgh is seeking funding to accomplish the Wightman Park Rehabilitation Project, valued at $4,073,435, according to the Wightman Park Master Plan; and,

Whereas, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP) offers grant funding for projects related to rehabilitation and repair of greenways, open space, parks, and beautification projects.

Now, therefore be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, that the City of Pittsburgh of Allegheny County has hereby requested a Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) grant in the amount of $250,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority for the Wightman Park Rehabilitation Project.

Be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Pittsburgh does hereby designate Mayor William Peduto as the official to execute all documents and agreements between the City of Pittsburgh and the Commonwealth Financing Authority to facilitate and assist in obtaining the requested grant funds.
