WHEREAS, Natalie Thomas has been an active community member in the Beltzhoover neighborhood of Pittsburgh for many years, in numerous capacities; and,
WHEREAS, most recently, Natalie has devoted all of her time and effort to cultivating, growing, and sharing a garden she was able to secure through GTECH, a non-profit that seeks to improve the economic, social, and environmental health of communities by developing vacant spaces; and,
WHEREAS, Natalie, with the aid of Marion (Mernie) Schafer from the Birmingham Foundation, the ladies of Standing in the Gap, a faith-based non-profit, as well as many others, has been able to bring her garden, aptly named the Unified Positive Effect Garden, to life; and,
WHEREAS, the lovely flowers that adorn the garden were, in part, donated by PGH Garden of Bethel Park with the help of the ladies of Standing in the Gap, a charitable group that not only greatly supports Natalie, but one she is part of; and,
WHEREAS, to share her pride and joy, Natalie hosted a Diversity Day luncheon celebration on May 4th, 2017 at the Warrington Recreational Center in order to encourage all of Pittsburgh to celebrate diversity and our multicultural backgrounds; and,
WHEREAS, it is my sincere pleasure to honor Natalie Thomas here today and share with everyone the great work that she has been doing; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate Ms. Natalie Thomas, and all who made Diversity Day possible; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, May 17th, 2017 to be “Natalie Thomas Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
