WHEREAS, Carrick is a neighborhood with a long and rich history, granted as land from King George II in 1753 and voted into the City of Pittsburgh in 1926; and,
WHEREAS, Carrick has a diverse and vibrant population of more than 10,000 residents; and,
WHEREAS, PopUp! Pittsburgh 2017 is a project presented by Huntington Bank and powered by Leadership Development Initiative (LDI) XXIV, a program of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. in partnership with Neighborhood Allies, the Birmingham Foundation, LUMA Institute, Economic Development South and the larger Carrick community; and,
WHEREAS, PopUp! Pittsburgh is community impact project that is undertaken by high potential emerging leaders who comprise the current class of Leadership Development Initiative, a program of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc; and,
WHEREAS, PopUp! Pittsburgh serves also as a learning lab for the LDI program participants who work together with the stakeholders of a defined city neighborhood to deliver a one day experience in that neighborhood to showcase its assets; and,
WHEREAS, 2017 PopUp! Pittsburgh will feature an INSIDE OUT group action, a public art installation that captures the faces of those who call Carrick home. This art installation is to symbolize the past, present and future of the Carrick community and celebrate its residents; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does commend the LDI XXIV cohort on their work to advance the Carrick community in the region; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 6, 2017 as “PopUp! Pittsburgh - INSIDE OUT: Carrick Day” here in the City of Pittsburgh.
