WHEREAS, Remake Learning is a professional network of educators and innovators working together to shape the future of teaching and learning in the Greater Pittsburgh Region. Representing more than 250 organizations, including early learning centers and schools, museums and libraries, after school programs and community non-profits, colleges and universities, ed-tech startups and major employers, philanthropies and civic leaders, Remake Learning is collaborative effort to inspire and empower a generation of lifelong learners in Pittsburgh, West Virginia and beyond; and,
WHEREAS, born out of an idea to prepare students for the 21st century, Remake Learning is designed to help the adults in kids’ lives experience how much education has changed through fundamental rethinking about meeting this generation’s needs; and,
WHEREAS, The Remake Learning Network, renowned for launching educational innovations now recognized nationally, will host more than 350 events in towns and neighborhoods across the Pittsburgh region that will include 89 maker events, 83 arts events, 77 technology events, 40 science events, 30 outdoor learning events and 27 youth voice events. For instance, he Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host 25 events across its branch system and innovative corporations such as Duolingo , Schell Games, Inventionland and Tech Shop Pittsburgh will host open houses while 29 school districts will be hosting showcases and events; and,
WHEREAS, with generous sponsors and more than 30,000 people expected at more than 270 events, Honorary Chairs Daya and Jasiri X will welcome Pittsburgh’s families to a Kickoff which will be open to the public on Monday, May 15 from 3-6PM at PNC Park. Remake Learning Days will run from May 15-26, 2017; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend The Remake Learning Network for creating future-ready, hands-on, relevant and engaging educational experiences for kids, families and educators and congratulates them for Remake Learning Days, a 12 day celebration of activities and events showcasing everything that makes the Pittsburgh region a recognized national leader in innovative teaching and learning; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 15 - 26, 2017 to be “REMAKE LEARNING DAYS” in the City of Pittsburgh.
