Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Bike Pittsburgh, Assemble, Sprout Fund, youth-serving organizations, and student participants for organizing the #PGHYouthVision campaign and for their efforts to boost civic engagement among Pittsburgh youth; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 27th, 2017 to be "#PGHYouthVision Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the #PGHYouthVision campaign enables young Pittsburghers to share their vision for the future of our city, region, state, and country through the use of creative media; and,

 

WHEREAS, for several months during after-school time, students and youth-serving organizations completed written, visual, and performing arts projects addressing issues ranging from racial justice, immigration and refugee policy, and LGBTQIA+ justice  to homelessness, policing, and transportation policy; and,

 

WHEREAS, a town hall and panel discussion provides Pittsburgh youth with an introduction to civic engagement and grassroots organizing and the chance to present their ideas for building a more welcoming, more equitable, and safer Pittsburgh to policymakers, grassroots organizers, journalists, and city planners; and,

 

WHEREAS, organized by Bike Pittsburgh, Assemble, and numerous youth-serving organizations, the #PGHYouthVision was funded through the Sprout Fund’s 100 Day of US, an initiative to empower people to act locally during the first 100 days of the new presidential administration; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Bike Pittsburgh, Assemble, Sprout Fund, youth-serving organizations, and student participants for organizing the #PGHYouthVision campaign and for their efforts to boost civic engagement among Pittsburgh youth; and,
