WHEREAS, The Congress of Neighboring of Communities (CONNECT) brings together the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding municipalities to identify common public policy challenges and advocate for collective change on behalf of Allegheny County’s urban core; and,
WHEREAS, established in 2009, CONNECT convenes the leaders of 40 local governments to identify common issues and work collaboratively to determine solutions. Issues include the political climate, current events, desires and interests of our membership and capacity with current policy issues including water and sewer management and regionalization, emergency medical service provision and funding, transportation, energy efficiency, blight and abandonment, infrastructure repair and coordination and health and wellness; and,
WHEREAS, in 2015, CONNECT serve as the host for two Utilities Summits that brought together representatives of CONNECT municipalities and the major utility companies to better coordinate infrastructure planning, to host stakeholder meetings for coordinated planning and to utilize a common data platform to electronically track paving plans ; and,
WHEREAS, the organization will host is eighth annual CONNECT Legislative Session and Reception where they will share updates of CONNECT’s policy work related to coordination between municipalities and utility companies, emergency medical services, the opioid epidemic and identifying priorities for the coming year; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Congress of Neighboring Communities for its commitment to promoting inter-municipal cooperation; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 18, 2017 to be “CONNECT DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.
