Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 21st, 2017 as "Alpha Alpha Omega Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1927, the Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered at the Centre Avenue YMCA by one of Alpha Kappa Alpha's founding members. Immediately the founding women began to provide service to Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities by making high scholastic achievement, sincere sisterhood, and high moral standards a priority; and,

WHEREAS, as an international sisterhood, every member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority adheres to these standards and holds the motto "Service to All Mankind" dearly. Alpha Alpha Omega has continued to uphold the ideals of the Sorority by carrying out the organization's international programs. This chapter is proud of its leadership, including several past and present members who have extended their service as National officers; and,

WHEREAS, the Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter is also the mentoring graduate chapter to six undergraduate chapters: Iota (University of Pittsburgh), Alpha Sigma (Pittsburgh City Wide Chapter, which includes: Carlow University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Duquesne University, and Robert Morris University), Kappa Beta (California University of PA), Kappa Zeta (Clarion University), Mu Omicron (Slippery Rock University), and Rho Rho (Indiana University of PA); and,

WHEREAS, today, the Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter has an active membership of more than 180 college-educated women, dedicated to continuing its positive impact on the Pittsburgh community and globally through collaboration with organizations to promote their International Program target areas of Educational Enrichment, Family Strengthening (Childhood Hunger), Health Promotion, Environmental Ownership, and Global Impact; and,

WHEREAS, as a local organization, Alpha Alpha Omega members consider themselves Women of Service. In 2015, the Chapter continued their dedication and commitment started in 1927 to live the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated mission of "Service to All Mankind." ...
