Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health on their commitment to excellent, client-centered care, and thanks the Center for ensuring the health and wellbeing of thousands of local women and their children; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 10th, 2017 to be "The Midwife Center Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, as Southwestern Pennsylvania's only licensed freestanding birth center, and now the largest freestanding birth center in the nation, The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health has provided thousands of women with exceptional healthcare since its beginning in 1982; and

WHEREAS, under the supervision of Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM), The Midwife Center provides pregnancy, birthing, and gynecological care for women during all stages of their lives; and

WHEREAS, thanks to The Midwife Center's unique philosophy of care and the dedication of its accomplished staff, the Center continues to maintain a standard of excellence in the health outcomes of its patients, with lower than average rates of premature birth, low birth weight and cesarean section; and

WHEREAS, between 2002 and 2014 The Midwife Center saw the number of births almost triple, prompting the center to expand its facilities to accommodate the growing demand for services; and

WHEREAS, with plans completed in 2017, the Center's expanded facility in the Strip District adds two more birth suites, four more appointment rooms, and a dedicated classroom that allows for new educational programs; and

WHEREAS, The Midwife Center continues to remain true to its fundamental commitment to serve women who have been marginalized from traditional health care settings by creating a number of program initiatives including its walk-in programs, "With Woman Fridays" and "Con Mujeres" for Spanish- speaking women; and
