WHEREAS, ASCEND, Pittsburgh’s premier rock climbing, fitness, and yoga studio, had its grand opening on March 15th, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, founded by Alex Bernstein, Paul Guarino, and Aaron Gilmore, the concept for ASCEND originated as early as 2011 and has been in the works ever since the founders sought to fill Pittsburgh’s need for a community space oriented towards wellness and climbing enthusiasts; and,
WHEREAS, ASCEND provides the Pittsburgh community, experienced climbers and novices alike, with the opportunity to incorporate new and unique ways to stay healthy and active; and,
WHEREAS, boasting 10,000 square feet of climbing wall space with walls ranging between 13-24- feet tall, the space features cardio equipment, free weights, various cross-training tools, free Wi-Fi, locker rooms with showers, a kitchenette, as well as panoramic views and a child-watch space with its own mini climbing wall for a holistic experience; and,
WHEREAS, ASCEND aims to foster an environment where all residents feel a sense of community, belonging, and inclusivity; and,
WHEREAS, by having more than a dozen partners regionally and nationally, ASCEND is able to help our community members cultivate a well-rounded approach to staying healthy, staying connected to other community members, as well as staying connected with nature when applying their skills to the outdoors; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate ASCEND, and all of those involved for their contribution to the Pittsburgh community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 to be “ASCEND Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
