WHEREAS, founded in 2012 by Erica Upshaw-Givner, Vision Towards Peace is celebrating 5 years of providing counseling services to individuals in order for them to live a productive and meaningful life with peace of mind, independence and strength; and,
WHEREAS, Erica works hard to provide a culturally sensitive atmosphere and is committed to combating the stereotypical stigma attached to African American's seeking mental health wellness; and,
WHEREAS, Vision Towards Peace works closely with Pretrial Services providing free and reduced priced mental health evaluations and drug and alcohol assessments; and,
WHEREAS, Vision Towards Peace hosts its annual Passion Meets the Road Awards Gala to acknowledge those who typically go unnoticed in the mental health field; and,
WHEREAS, most recently, Vision Towards Peace partnered with Addison Behavioral Care, who serve families and individuals with substance abuse, in order to offer a more comprehensive care by incorporating mental health services into substance abuse treatment to ensure a more full and lasting recovery; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Erica Upshaw-Givner and Vision Towards Peace on their 5th Anniversary; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, March 12, 2017 to be “Vision Towards Peace Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
