Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does congratulate the 2017 inductees to the National Elementary Honors Society for their achievements; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, March 15, 2017 to be "West Liberty National Elementary Honors Society Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, 4th and 5th graders from Pittsburgh West Liberty Elementary will be inducted into the National Elementary Honors Society in recognition of their academic achievements; and,

WHEREAS, West Liberty Elementary is a K-5 neighborhood school located in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood with the mission to provide an environment where each child is able to develop academically, emotionally, and socially to his/her fullest potential.; and,

WHEREAS, West Liberty Elementary is a comprehensive elementary school, with two classes of each grade level, one autistic support classroom, and two learning support classes; and,

WHEREAS, West Liberty Elementary has a dedicated and experienced staff, strong Parent School Community Council, a hardworking Parent/Teacher Organization, and concerned parents to help them to excel; and,

WHEREAS, the school and all those who attend, teach, and serve there live by its motto, "Where Learners Excel and Character Counts," by serving as a place where everyone is a learner - students, staff, and parents - working together toward excellence; and,

WHEREAS, the significance of the National Elementary Honors Society Induction Ceremony is to recognize students in 4th and 5th grades, who have excelled academically and who have demonstrated exceptional responsibility in their home, school, and community; and,

WHEREAS, to be a member of West Liberty's National Elementary Honors Society, students must earn a 3.75 grade point average for two consecutive quarters and have a clean disciplinary record; and,

WHEREAS, West Liberty's NEHS chapter was charter on December 11, 2015 by its principal, Ms. Deoone Arrington, and Mrs. Amber Henderson, a 4th grade teacher and National Elementary Honors Society advisor, to recognize students who are responsible and consonantly achieved academic excellence; and,
