Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the hard work and dedication demonstrated by the Colfax Boys and Girls Swim Teams, commends Mr. Dominic Woods for this commitment to the Colfax students and congratulates the Colfax Boys and Girls Swim Teams for their remarkable achievements; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 14, 2017 to be "COLFAX SWIM TEAM DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Colfax K-8 is a neighborhood school in the heart of Squirrel Hill, serving students living in parts of Squirrel Hill, East Hills, Homewood, Shadyside and Point Breeze. Its mission is to provide an enriching educational experience to prepare the students to achieve academic excellence and strength of character so they have the opportunity to succeed in all aspects of life. It provides a comprehensive academic core program as well as a being an on-site gifted model school, 3-8 partial immersion Spanish language program and English as a Second Language Center; and,

WHEREAS, one of the amenities inside the Colfax building is a swimming pool but there had never been a Swim Team as part of the curriculum or extra-curricular activities. In 2016, Dominic Woods joined the faculty as a Social Studies teacher, and having been a high school swimmer at Brashear High School, he committed to build a Swim Team, plan practices at the Colfax Pool and then compete against other middle school squads in the city. Mr. Woods has brought together a dedicated group of middle school students who report for practice at 6:15AM and have consistently demonstrated their commitment to succeed for him, their school and themselves; and,

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Colfax Boys Swim Team, coached by Mr. Dominic Woods, posted a 6-0 record, winning the 2016-2017 City Middle School Swim Championship. The Pittsburgh Colfax Girls Swim Team, coached by Mr. Dominic Woods, posted a 5-1 season record, achieving a second place position at the 2016-2017 Middle School Swim Championships; and,

WHEREAS, the Colfax Boys Swim Team members are Captain Zev Schreiber, Co-Captain Nathan Segall, Benjamin Kennedy, Max Applbaum, Ben Crivella, Ezra Dubowitz, Liam Friedlander, Felix Germain, Joshua Jones, Matthew Langer, Mounir Mora-Kapai, Ian Kuchera, Diego Portello, Dan Rabinovich, Johah Sietz, Cole Schaefer, Andrew Sherbinin, Jett Weiss, Neel Willis and Eli Wynn; and,
