Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 31, 2017 to be "Michael H. Huss Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Michael H. Huss, Deputy Director of Public Safety for the City of Pittsburgh, will be ending his service to the City of Pittsburgh after 12 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Huss grew up in Irwin, where he served as an emergency medical technician and firefighter; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Huss has earned three college degrees: an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science from Westmoreland County Community College, a bachelor’s of science in Public Administration from Point Park University, and a Master’s degree in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Huss served as Fire Chief for the City of Johnstown for six years and simultaneously served as Emergency Management Coordinator for Cambria County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Huss joined the City of Pittsburgh in March 2005 to become its Fire Chief; and,

 

WHEREAS, in January 2007, Mr. Huss was elevated to Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management Coordinator, and helped guide the City through some of its greatest challenges, including but not limited to the Group of 20 Economic Summit of 2009, the Stanton Heights police shooting of 2009, and many of Pittsburgh’s sporting events and celebrations; and,

 

WHEREAS, since 2014, Mr. Huss has been a valuable advisor and leader to the City as its Deputy Director of Public Safety; and,

 

WHEREAS, as a father of one daughter, Hanna, and one son, Michael Junior, Michael H. Huss looks forward to supporting his family through a new chapter in their lives; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 31, 2017 to be “Michael H. Huss Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
