WHEREAS, originally founded as South End Active Democrats, SEAD Democrats was founded in 1987 and celebrates its 30th Anniversary on Saturday, January 21, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, since its founding, SEAD Democrats has grown into a countywide grassroots Democratic organization centered in South Pittsburgh dedicated to encourage citizens to get involved in Democratic Politics; and,
WHEREAS, SEAD is made up of over 250 members including elected officials, members of the Democratic party, campaign workers, Democratic Committee Members, Union Leaders, several founding members, such as current President Robert Frank, community activists and residents who want to make a difference; and,
WHEREAS, SEAD encourage people of all ages to participate and use their voice in the democratic process in every election and to support the democratic ticket; and,
WHEREAS, SEAD hosts candidate debates and forums and a free annual picnic at South Park where over 600 people attend including Mayors, Governors, County Executives, Statewide Candidates and Council Members; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, SEAD has worked to support non-profits such as those working with the homeless, women’s centers, disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate SEAD Democrats on their 30th Anniversary; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, January 21, 2017 to be “SEAD Democrats Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
