Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Michael on this major life achievement; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 10, 2017 to be "Michael Jonathan Lacek Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Michael Jonathan Lacek, a senior at Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy and resident of Brookline, is a member of Troop #6 Screamin' Eagles of the Boy Scouts of America; and,

WHEREAS, Michael is a member of a small Christian church called 'In His Presence' and assists his church when needed often serving as a greeter and usher and assisting with janitorial and maintenance duties; and,

WHEREAS, Michael is also successful in his academic life where he serves his school as a student ambassador at recruitment and outreach events. Michael has been inducted into the National Honor Society and takes upper level math and science courses including AP Calculus and AP Physics; and,

WHEREAS, Michael became involved with the Boy Scouts of America in Pack 601 as a Tiger Scout, which is where first graders begin in the Cub Scouts. In his tenure with the Boy Scouts, Michael has learned skills such as leadership, service and other useful skills by earning merit badges such as cooking and money management, all while living by the Scout Oath and Scout Law in his everyday life; and,

WHEREAS, during his time with Troop 6, Michael has served as the Troop Librarian, Troop Guide, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and is a member of the Scout's National Honor Society- Order of the Arrow; and,

WHEREAS, Michael's Eagle Scout Project was the construction of a shelter in the school playground at the Elizabeth Seton Center, this included installing concrete posts, constructing a floor, roof, and railing for safety to be enjoyed by students and staff; and,

WHEREAS, the Eagle Scout Award is held in high honor in all branches of the military and earning this award is a rare occurrence that only 4% of Scouts reach; and,

WHEREAS, Michael has worked countless hours to earn the title of Eagle Scout and has overcome many challenges and obstacles through his hard work and support from his fellow Scouts, friends, and family; and,
