Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby send its deepest condolences for the loss of such a bright young man with a promising future; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 20, 2016 to be "In Memory of Rashawn Gibson" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body

WHEREAS, Rashawn Gibson was a 12th grader attending Brashear High School when he tragically lost his life to senseless violence Tuesday, December 20, 2016; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rashawn, also known as “Ray Ray” was known for his radiant smile and was a leader among his peers, encouraging his friends to set their goals high; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rashawn was a member of the We Promise mentoring program which helps African-American students work toward graduating with a college scholarship from The Pittsburgh Promise and was involved with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Pittsburgh; and,

 

WHEREAS, he was an honor roll student at Pittsburgh Brashear and was planning on attending college upon graduation; and,

 

WHEREAS, one of his favorite quotes was “a real man rejects passivity, excepts responsibility, leads courageously, and invests eternally;” and,

 

WHEREAS, Psalm 34:18 states the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit; and,
