Title: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank Chuck and Mary for their dedication to the preservation of history and the great service that they provide to people from all over the world searching for information about their ancestors; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, November 21, 2016 to be "Charles and Mary Burrow Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, during the hottest months of the summer of 2016, Charles (Chuck) and Mary Burrow took on the task of cleaning up the long neglected West Liberty Cemetery in Beechview; and,

WHEREAS, Chuck is a is a Vietnam and Gulf War Era veteran and retired Marine having served 23 years' active duty; and,

WHEREAS, Chuck retired in May 1993 and became a resident of Pittsburgh. At present, he is the Commander of Mt. Lebanon Post 156 of the American Legion, Inc.; and,

WHEREAS, Mary is from Pittsburgh. She is a genealogist and volunteers for Find-A-Grave to locate and identify the graves of veterans, family members, and others in order to maintain record of their lives and final resting place; and,

WHEREAS, she and Chuck have visited many cemeteries in the Pittsburgh area, locating and documenting grave sites in response to requests for photos from other members of Find-A-Grave searching for relatives in this area; and,

WHEREAS, Mary does all of the computer and on-line documentation and Chuck is the chauffer, photographer and master at uncovering sunken grave markers; and,

WHEREAS, their latest project was in the little known West Liberty Cemetery in Beechview, which sits at the very end of Fallowfield Avenue; and,

WHEREAS, prior to documenting, the cemetery needed to be cleaned as it was overgrown from many years of neglect; and,

WHEREAS, in July, Chuck, Mary and a few additional volunteers began at the cemetery for a few hours at a time to work around the summer heat until it was again clean and gravesites were visible; and,

WHEREAS, assistance was also provided by James R. Jamieson, another a genealogist, who researched past cemetery records which now are being brought up to date; and,

WHEREAS, at present, flags were placed at the gravesites of 35 veterans, four firefighters, two police officers. A listing of six veterans were found without a grave marker; and,
