Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Central Catholic Golf Team for their incredible hard work, tireless dedication, and outstanding sportsmanship this season; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, November 21, 2016 to be "Central Catholic Golf Team Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School, located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, is a college preparatory, Catholic school for boys, guided by the educational principles of St. John Baptist de La Salle, which strives to provide a challenging, relevant and diverse program of studies and extracurricular activities, including golf; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Central Catholic Golf Team, who practiced, sacrificed, and persevered in the face of adversity include, Matt Del Rosso, Jake Smithco, Vinny Meinert, Teddy Sluser, Joe Pronio, Shane Kelley, Neal Shipley, Jimmy Myers, and Head Coach Corey O'Connor, Assistant Coaches Jason Ott, Bob Jablonowski, Bob Barret, Mike Smith, and Sean Mullen; and

WHEREAS, the Central Catholic Golf Team won the 2016 Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) final with a five-player, record-breaking 378 score, marking their second WPIAL title ever and first since 2012; and

WHEREAS, the Central Catholic Golf Team then went on to compete for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Championship on Wednesday, October 26 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the Central Catholic Vikings, led by Jimmy Myers' score of 72 and 3 other scores in the 70's by Neal Shipley, Matt DelRosso, and Jake Smithco, were able to post a record-setting 297 score, en route to a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) State Championship; and

WHEREAS, in record-setting fashion, the Central Catholic Golf Team captured its first State Championship in school history, defeating its nearest opponent by nine strokes.
