WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America was founded January 24, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from a meeting of 20 mothers under the leadership of Marion Stubbs Thomas with the idea of bringing children together in a social and cultural environment; and,
WHEREAS, from the beginning, Jack and Jill of America focused on instilling the values and leadership skills that would serve each child well into adulthood; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter, founded in 1944, is the 4th oldest chapter and continues to lead the regional charge to develop children, particularly in the African American community; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter of Jack and Jill is hosting its 2016 Presentation Ball on Friday, the 30th of December; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh would like to congratulate the ten exceptional young persons being presented for the 2016 year:

Taylor Janet Brown
Kendal Milton Thomas

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Pittsburgh Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for its endless contribution and dedication to the youth of the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, December 30, 2016 to be “Jack and Jill Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
