WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Cahall recently retired from the History Department at Duquesne University after 25 distinguished years of service; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Cahall was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and received his Bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University; completed a graduate program in museum practices at Cooperstown; and received his Master's degree and doctorate from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Cahall worked professionally in the field of public history for 11 years; first as the Assistant Curator of Exhibits at Old Museum Village of Smith's Clove in Monroe, NY; then in multiple roles including Acting Director at Oswego County Historical Society, Oswego, NY; finally as Director of Champaign County Historical Museum in Champaign, IL; and,
WHEREAS, in 1991 Dr. Cahall and his wife Karen moved to Pittsburgh so he could teach at Duquesne University, a position which he cherished and in which he excelled. Classes he taught include the following: U.S. History to 1877, U.S. History since 1877, Religion and the American Experience, Introduction to the Graduate Study of History, American Intellectual and Cultural History, Museum Studies, Museums and Society, and Museum Education and Public Programming; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Cahall served Duquesne University in numerous leadership roles in addition to his teaching duties including: Recruitment Liaison for McAnulty College of Liberal Arts, Director of the University Honors College for six years, Director of Graduate Studies in History for four years, member of the Search Committee for the Assistant Dean of McAnulty College of Liberal Arts, and member of the Awards Committee for McAnulty College of Liberal Arts; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Cahall has volunteered his time to preserve the history of Pittsburgh by serving on the Collections Committee of the Heinz History Center, as a Board of Trustee for the Historical Society of Mount Lebanon, and serving as a Tour Guide for the Pittsburgh Hi...
