Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does recognize the thirty year anniversary of WTAE Project Bundle Up and wishes continued success in their endeavors in the years to come; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, November 1, 2016, to be "Project Bundle-Up Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1986, a group of visionary individuals including WTAE-TV Channel 4 General Manager Fred Barber and Chief Meteorologist Joe DeNardo and Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Divisional Commander, Lt. Colonel Robert A. Watson, recognized the need for a program to provide adequate winter weather wear for disadvantaged children and senior citizens for protection against the harsh Western Pennsylvania weather; and,

WHEREAS, a steering committee, including Greater Pittsburgh Salvation Army Advisory Board members Jeanne Caliguiri and Patricia Rooney, among others, worked together to establish "Project Bundle Up," a partnership between WTAE-TV Channel 4 and The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Division; and,

WHEREAS, Project Bundle-up set out to raise funds to be able to provide new winter outerwear for children ages birth to 18 and seniors aged 62 and above meeting established low-income requirements; and,

WHEREAS, a component of the program was included that provided the opportunity for adult volunteers to assist the children in shopping for their coats, gloves, hats and boots and to serve as positive role models; and providing an opportunity for corporations and individuals not only to donate financially to the program but to have the opportunity to experience first-hand the impact of their contributions; and,

WHEREAS, throughout their 30 years of operation throughout the 28 county territory of The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Division, WTAE-TV Channel 4's Project Bundle Up has partnered with thousands of individuals, church groups, civic groups, professional sports teams and corporations; and has conducted countless special events to raise funds, generating over 13 million dollars and providing new winter outerwear to over 267,000 children and senior citizens; and,

WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does thank WTAE-TV Channel 4, The Salvation Army, and all of the supporters of the program for improving the lives of countle...
