Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the African American Leadership Association for its dedicated service and commitment to the leaders of the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares October 28, 2016 to be "African American 2016 Leadership Summit Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Friday, October 28, 2016 the African American Leadership Association will host its 6th Annual African American Leadership Summit.  With over 250 members since June 2009, AALA identifies as the premiere organization for leadership; and,

 

WHEREAS, AALA provides African Americans and minorities with programming that will prepare them not only for leadership positions, but position African American and minority leaders to work collectively towards influential leadership; and,

 

WHEREAS, the summit has a dynamic and exciting line up of speakers, facilitators and panelists, which includes keynote speaker Richard Green, Ph.D., the interim President of Lincoln University, Karris Jackson, Diamonte Walker, Khalif Ali, Austin Davis, Harry Davis, Curtis Randle El and more; and,

 

WHEREAS, the panel discussion “Leading by Strengthening Partnerships” will be moderated by Rev. Dr. John Wallace from University of Pittsburgh and Bible Center Church in Homewood.  Breakout sessions include Access to Finance, Financial Inclusion, and Risk Prepping for A Position of Power and Generational Transition; and,

 

WHEREAS, AALA recognizes leaders in its annual awards ceremony for Blazing Leaders, Influential Leaders and Innovative Inclusion.  This year’s Awardees are: Innovative Inclusion- GE Healthcare; Blazing Leaders- Christian Hughes of Drafting Dreams and Sharnay Davis of Hill House; Influential Leaders- Luther J Sewell, Jr. of Talk Magazine and Rosemary Crawford, Esq.; and for the Bernadette Turner Award- Latika Davis-Jones, Ph.D. of Allegheny County DHS ; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year, there will be a special tribute to Co-Founder Bernadette Turner who passed away in 2013.  Turner was the immediate past executive director of the Addison Behavioral Care Inc. and the Co-Founder of AALA. The Bernadette “Bernie” Turner Scholarship Fund for high school kids to attend Lincoln University will also be announced; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the African American Leadership Association for its dedicated service and commitment to the leaders of the City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares October 28, 2016 to be “African American 2016 Leadership Summit Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
