Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the African Methodist Churches for more than 149 years of dedicated service and commitment to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares September 12 through September 17, 2016 to be "African Methodist Episcopal Churches Annual Conference Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, the African Methodist Episcopal Church will host its’ 149th General Conference and Historic Merger of the West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Scranton District AME Churches; and,

 

WHEREAS, the 149th General Conference and Historic Merger of the West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Scranton District AME Churches will be held on September 12 through September 17, 2016; and,

 

WHEREAS, the conference will be held at the oldest church for people of color, Bethel AME; and,

 

WHEREAS, the collaboration of churches will consist of 64 churches and 500 - 600 members are expected to attend and,

 

WHEREAS, elected officials and special guests are all welcome to attend Ecumenical Night on Tuesday, September 13, 2016;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the African Methodist Churches for more than 149 years of dedicated service and commitment to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares September 12 through September 17, 2016 to be “African Methodist Episcopal Churches Annual Conference Week in the City of Pittsburgh.
