Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Jane Werner on her 25 of years of distinguished service to the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, September 14th, 2016 to be "Jane Werner Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Jane Werner, Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh will celebrate her 25th anniversary with the Museum in September 2016. Under Jane's leadership the Museum has flourished from a small community organization to a national tourist destination and leader in the museum field, and;

WHEREAS, Ms. Werner's 33 years of museum experience includes 25 years at The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh where she has served as Program Director, Deputy Director and currently Executive Director. Werner leads the team responsible for all aspects of the Museum's mission and vision, exhibits, public programming, funding and operations, and;

WHEREAS, The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh expanded in November 2004 after the completion of a 29 million dollar capital campaign. After this campaign, attendance at the Museum increased three-fold. The project was the recipient of the 2006 American Institute of Architects National Award and National Trust for Historic Preservation Award, and;

WHERAS, The Museum received the 2009 National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for its work in the community and in 2011 the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh was named one of the top ten children's museums by Parents Magazine. Under Ms. Werner's leadership and in partnership with the Warhol Museum, the Children's Museum reopened the closed New Hazlett Theater, raising over 2 million dollars and creating a separate 501c3 organization, and;

WHEREAS, in 2012, the Museum opened Buhl Community Park, a 6.1 million dollar public park in front of the Museum. In 2013, the Museum was cited by AAM Press in the book Magnetic as one of six museums with powerful internal alignment and a compelling vision allowing it to attract the critical resources for success, and;

WHEREAS, Ms. Werner is past president of the Association of Children's Museums, Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council Board and New Hazlett Theater. She is on the boards of the Maker Education Initiat...
