Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does declare Tuesday, September 13th, 2016 to be NEW HAZLETT THEATER DAY in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, New Hazlett Theater was founded in 2006 as a multi-use performing arts space on Pittsburgh's Northside. New Hazlett Theater is housed in the original historic Carnegie Library, which was located in the heart of old Allegheny City. The location and size of the renovated Carnegie Library building makes New Hazlett Theater one of the best mid-sized performance spaces in the City of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, New Hazlett Theater is a center for culture on the Northside, and is committed to generating economic activity for the Northside community. New Hazlett Theater serves as a space for art, dance, music, theater, spoken word performances, performance art, and family programming including the Community Supported Art Performance Series; and,

WHEREAS, New Hazlett Theater has hosted 1,439 events since its opening, and has supported the projects of 223 individual artists, art organizations, non-profits, businesses, and concert promoters, thereby welcoming 26,000 to 30,000 guests each year; and,

WHEREAS, New Hazlett Theater is a revival of the Hazlett Theater, which was built in 1889 and served as the Carnegie Music Hall and the Pittsburgh Public Theater for 24 seasons. New Hazlett Theater is a revitalized version of the Hazlett Theater, and has taken on many more forms of art than the original Hazlett Theater ever had; and,

WHEREAS, New Hazlett Theater is an active and celebrated venue for nonprofit organizations, artists, and community arts partners committed to engaging and enlivening Pittsburgh's Northside community in ways not seen before; and,

WHEREAS, New Hazlett Theater is now celebrating its tenth year as a center for culture and art in Pittsburgh's Northside. The Northside looks forward to another ten years of outstanding displays of artwork and diversity. Congratulations on your ten wonderful years of success, New Hazlett Theater!
