Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Rabbi Mordy and Rivkee Rudolph for their dedication to The Friendship Circle and congratulates The Friendship Circle for its ten years of successful service to the community and for its move to a new home in the heart of Squirrel Hill; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, September 11, 2016 to be "THE FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Friendship Circle, established in Pittsburgh's Jewish Community in 2006, is dedicated to integrating children and young adults with special needs more fully into the broader community; and,

WHEREAS, the program engages children and young adults with and without special needs in a full range of activities. The Friendship Circle aims to enrich the lives of all participants through mutually advantageous interactions, creating lasting friendships, which consequently strengthen both the Jewish and greater community; and,

WHEREAS, located in the middle of Squirrel Hill on Murray Avenue and run by Rabbi Mordy Rudolph and his wife, Rivke Rudolph with a Board of community activists, The Friendship Circle has helped teens and young adults throughout the Pittsburgh region build meaningful relationships and transform their lives by broadening their perspectives. Participation has increased 20% in the last year, reaching over 400 participants and providing over 100 programs free of charge; and,

WHEREAS, Programming which has proven most effective include Friends at Home where a pair of carefully matched volunteers visits their special needs friend in his or her home on a once-weekly basis. In addition, there is a Cooking Club, a Sports League which includes baseball, basketball and soccer, a Creative Arts Club where friends learn about glass-making, photography and ceramics and the Sunday Circle where friends meet for a few hours of themed programming that includes music, acting, athletics and art.; and,

WHEREAS, The Friendship Circle will host a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of their new facility at 1922 Murray Avenue on Sunday, September 11, 2016, offering fun, food, friendship and a tour of their new home and programs; and,
