Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of November, 2013 to be National Epilepsy Awareness Month in the City of Pittsburgh, and do recognize the role that the Epilepsy Foundation for Western Pennsylvania City of Pittsburgh Epilepsy have played a role in raising awareness about Epilepsy in the City of Pittsburgh. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, August 30, 2016, to be "Nurse Family Partnership Allegheny Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Nurse Family Partnership is an evidenced-based program that provides nurse home visiting services to first time, vulnerable mothers by registered nurses beginning early in pregnancy and continuing through the child’s second year.  NFP’s primary program goals are to improve birth outcomes, child health and development, and parental economic self-sufficiency; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nurse Family Partnership has been a program of the Allegheny County Health Department since 2001.  Since its inception, NFP Allegheny has served more than 3,000 women, infants, and children; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nurse Family Partnership Allegheny achieved the following outcomes for 2015: 89% of their babies were born at full term, 89% of babies were born at a healthy weight, 70% of mothers initiated breastfeeding with 33% continued through six months, 100% of children received all recommended immunizations by 2 years of age, 33% of pregnant mothers quit smoking during pregnancy, as well as 100% of their children were screened for developmental delay; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nurse Family Partnership Allegheny is cost-effective.  For the higher-risk families now served by the program, a 2005 RAND study found net benefit of $34,148 per family serviced, which equals a $5.70 return per dollar invested in NFP; and
