Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend The Shyne Awards for recognizing the noteworthy achievements of our youth; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, August 6, 2016, to be "Shyne Honorees Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Shyne Awards Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Darnell Drewery and Orlana Darkins Drewery formed to recognize the positive achievements of youth between the ages 13-19, including offering educational programs and events to encourage the personal, social and academic attainment of our youth; and,

 

WHEREAS, The Shyne Awards is the organization's annual signature event which honors youth by highlighting their positive achievements in place of the negative stories heard most about our young people; and,

 

WHEREAS, the 9th Annual Shyne Awards is set for Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the August Wilson Center where the Red Carpet event will begin at 5:30 PM with The Shyne Awards ceremony at 7:00 PM; and,

 

WHEREAS, the following are the 2016 Shyne Honorees:

 

Adam C. White, Academics; Naomi Zenmon, Arts; Raja Rutherford, Bernard H. Jones, Leadership Award; Alex Portis, Entrepreneurship; Robert X. Liggett, Community Service; Taneisha Crawford, Service in Ministry; Shailen Abram, Overcoming Obstacles; City Charter High School’s International Service Learning Program, Young Adult Group; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend The Shyne Awards for recognizing the noteworthy achievements of our youth; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, August 6, 2016, to be “Shyne Honorees Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
