Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Maelene Myers for her 20 years of service to ELDI and to the East End; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, July 14, 2016, to be "Maelene Myers Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Thursday, July 14, Maelene Myers will celebrate her 20th year as Executive Director of East Liberty Development, Incorporated (ELDI); and,

 

WHEREAS, Maelene is a pioneer in the economic integration of large-scale housing developments in distressed communities who has over twenty years of experience in commercial and residential real estate development, long-range planning, workforce development and community organizing; and,

 

WHEREAS, under Maelene’s leadership, ELDI has partnered with developers and co-developed over 400 mixed-income for sale and rental housing units and raised over $20 million dollars of financing for commercial developments which has resulted in job creation for East End residents; and,

 

WHEREAS, Maelene has worked tirelessly throughout her tenure at ELDI to spearhead the redevelopment of the East End.  She has a deep passion for the people of the City of Pittsburgh and has a sincere focus on East Liberty; and,

 

WHEREAS, Maelene has earned the respect of government, private and community leaders; and,

 

WHEREAS, Maelene’s leadership at ELDI has enabled many of her employees to go on to serve in major roles in the non-profit world, both in Pennsylvania and beyond; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Maelene Myers for her 20 years of service to ELDI and to the East End; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, July 14, 2016, to be “Maelene Myers Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
