WHEREAS, in the words of President Teddy Roosevelt, "Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." Since he began his tenure at the Jewish Family and Children's Service of Pittsburgh, Aryeh Sherman has been immersed in work worth doing, promoting the vision, supporting the mission and living the values of the Jewish Family and Children's Service; and,
WHEREAS, having graduated from Penn State and with a Masters from Temple University, Aryeh began his tenure in 1999, having brought 25 years of experience in the delivery and administration of social service programs in community based services for the elderly, refugee resettlement, family development and career and vocational services at the Western Galilee of Israel Save the Children Federation, the Vocational and Career Services of JEVS Human Services and the Family Service of Philadelphia; and,
WHEREAS, In Pittsburgh, Aryeh successfully transformed JFCS to ensure that the agency would be more responsive to community needs, building a leadership team and staff recognized for excelling in the provision of quality services. Under his leadership, JF&CS is now the leading agency in the region providing resettlement and legal services to refugees and immigrants, is nationally recognized for its AgeWell Program, a community based model of aging services and for the WorkAble program in the area of career and job development. In addition, JF&CS built and expanded the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry to serve vulnerable populations and has become one of the largest food pantries in the region; and,
WHEREAS, leaving JF&CS in good stead but continuing to be committed to advancing social justice, supporting opportunities for all people and promoting the importance of diversity in building strong communities, Aryeh will be attending the Duquesne University Certificate Program in Professional Coaching to hone his skills as a consultant to non-profit executives who want ...
