Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 19, 2016 to be "Nan Moone Currington Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Born July 23, 1916 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Thomas Moone, Sr. and Nannie Griffin Moone, Nan Moone Currington was the 2nd to the youngest of nine children; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nan Currington attended and graduated from Fifth Avenue High School, Class of 1935, and then went on to obtain a Bachelor’s in Home Economics from Cheyney State College, 1938 - 1942; and,

 

WHEREAS, At Bucknell University, Nan Currington, pursued her Master’s in Education, worked in counseling and administration, and was also chosen to be head resident for Graduate students - which was a position that paid for her tuition; and,

 

WHEREAS, at Fifth Avenue Jr./Sr. High School, Nan Currington taught classroom from 1950 to 1972, worked as Girls Advisor from 1960 to 1965, moved to Counselor of 7th and 8th grades from 1965 to 1968, and was then promoted to Vice Principle from 1968 to 1972; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nan Currington worked as Vice Principle Langley High for 7th and 9th grades from 1972 to 1974 and then as Dean of Students at Greenway Middle School from 1974 to 1981 when she retired; and,

 

WHEREAS, Nan Currington was a member of the AKA Sorority Pittsburgh Grad Chapter 1946.  She became a Life Member in the 1960s as well as Grad Advisor of Iota Chapter from 1958 - 1969; and,

 

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh celebrates Ms. Currington’s 100th birthday and recognizes her contributions and committed work in the field of education; and,
