Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby congratulates the Brookline Recreation Center, Brookline Chamber of Commerce, South Pittsburgh Development Corporation, and all other volunteers on 35 successful years of the Brookline Breeze, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, August 13, 2016 to be "Brookline Breeze Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh Brookline Recreation Center is hosting the 35th Annual Brookline Breeze 5K Race and Fitness Walk on August 13, 2016; and,

WHEREAS, the event focuses on family and fitness events for all ages and skill levels, including a 5K competitive footrace, fitness walk, 1 mile fun run and 1 mile dog walk; and,

WHEREAS, the Brookline Breeze is a challenging 5K fitness run/walk on the rolling hills of Brookline. The 5K course takes runners and walkers from Brookline Memorial Park to the city border with Dormont and back again. The 3.1 mile route follows Brookline Boulevard to Pioneer Avenue, then turns left and proceeds to a turn-around near West Liberty Avenue, then back again; and,

WHEREAS, the race is a part of the On Your Mark with Highmark Youth Challenge which encourages children to take part in footraces by either running or walking the 5K distance, and;

WHEREAS, beginning at noon, the Brookline Boulevard Breezefest and Community Festival will take place along the boulevard, and;

WHEREAS, Breezefest will feature a merchant sidewalk sale, live music, informational booths and a wide array of children's activities, including an inflatable Moon Bounce and Slide, a balloon artist, face painter and much more; and,

WHEREAS, the Brookline Breeze offers something for all ages to enjoy. Come celebrate physical fitness, and the character and charm of the community of Brookline on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Race proceeds benefit the Brookline Area Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Brookline Area Recreation Programs, and Saint John Bosco Academy School (formerly Brookline Regional Catholic).

WHEREAS, the Brookline Breeze 5K Race has raised thousands of dollars for local charities and worked to contribute in a meaningful way for the Brookline community, and;
