Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. James Manson for his commitment to the City of Pittsburgh and the exceptional work ethic that he portrayed; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, July 6, 2016, to be "James Manson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on May 2, 1972, Mr. James Manson began working as a temporary laborer for the City of Pittsburgh Parks and Recreation - Bureau of Maintenance only planning on staying for one summer but stayed with the City of Pittsburgh 44 years and retired on June 1, 2016; and,

 

WHEREAS, he began his career at Riverview Park as a Laborer until June 1, 1974 and shortly after, Parks & Recreation - Bureau of Maintenance was merged into Public Works; and,

 

WHEREAS, after the merge, he became a Regular Laborer working at West Park, later transferred to the Aviary for what was known as the Western Division, currently known as the 5th Division; and,

 

WHEREAS, he had worked at Frick Park until 1998 when it was known as “Point State Park Zone,” which consisted of North Shore, West Park, Point State Park, Allegheny Landing, Allegheny River Walkway, Crosstown Park, Bedford Strip, West Penn, and Curto Park; and,

 

WHEREAS, his last thirteen years with the city was spent working at Mellon Square Park where he was an essential contributor to the award winning restoration which was concluded in 2014; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Manson has worked under seven Mayors: Pete Flaherty, Sophie Masloff, Tom Murphy, Bob O’ Conner, Luke Ravenstahl and Bill Peduto; and,

 

WHEREAS, James had no time for hobbies while working with the city and would like to do nothing until he gets bored!  When that happens, he would like to take computer classes to expand his knowledge and eventually would like to get involved with helping recovering drug and alcohol addicts; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. James Manson for his commitment to the City of Pittsburgh and the exceptional work ethic that he portrayed; and,
