Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Alexa Tokarski for her commitment to the Pittsburgh Public School District and her outstanding role in supporting teachers and students; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, July 6, 2016, to be "Alexa Tokarski Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Alexa Tokarski received recognition from an educational advocacy group for helping to improve Pittsburgh Public Schools at a celebration on Thursday, June 23, 2016; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Tokarski grew up in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh and graduated with high honors from Schenley High School in 2006; and,

 

WHEREAS, while at Schenley, Alexa volunteered at the Hazelwood YMCA where she developed curriculum and began programs to teach young students both reading and writing and taught an entry level class in Spanish to older students, all while competing in the soccer club and working part-time; and,

 

WHEREAS, Alexa attended Point Park University  where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education - English in 2010 and a Master’s in Educational Administration K-12 in 2013 graduating Magna Cum Laude both years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Tokarski taught at her Alma Mater Schenley High School from 2010-2011 and was Assistant Coach of the Schenley Boys Soccer Team during that time; and,

 

WHEREAS, upon Schenley’s closing at the end of 2011, she taught English and Language Arts at Pittsburgh Perry High School for five years and served in a number of leadership positions including Head Coach of the girls soccer team at Allderdice High School; and,

 

WHEREAS, she is currently helping to manage the Summer Dreamers Academy for the District and is the Learning Environment Specialist at Pittsburgh Brashear High School, where she plays a critical role in ensuring that the Pittsburgh Public School District is creating positive teaching and learning environment; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,  that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Alexa Tokarski for her commitment to the Pittsburgh Public School District and her outstanding role in supporting teachers and students; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, July 6, 2016, to be “Alexa Tokarski Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
