Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh joins the Serb National Federation in celebration of the 100th Serbian Day at Kennywood and does hereby declare Saturday, July 16, 2016, to be "Serbian Day at Kennywood" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Serb National Federation (SNF) is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Serbian Day in Kennywood Park on July 16, 2016; and,

 

WHEREAS, this is the first ethnic group of Pittsburgh to reach such an historic milestone; and,

 

WHEREAS, this date will be a part of the annual 3-Day weekend which will include events paying homage to the history and culture of Serbian Americans; and,

 

WHEREAS, many visitors of Serbian ethnic descent will converge upon the city of Pittsburgh from all over the USA to participate with their families and friends in these events celebrating their history and heritage; and,

 

WHEREAS, the day will be dedicated to SNF members who have reached their 100th birthdays, Michael Pupin, American inventor and Pulitzer Prize winner for his book From Immigrant to Inventor for his humanitarianism, and to Stevo Babic and Bozo Mamula who co-chaired the very first Serbian ethnic day at Kennywood to benefit the large number of Serbian orphans from WWI; and,

 

WHEREAS, the proceeds from former Serbian Days at Kennywood helped sponsor the Serbian-Yugoslav Nationality Room at the University of Pittsburgh and many other good deeds, such as Lt. Col. Mitchell Paige, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient of American Serb heritage selling an incredible amount of American War Bonds at Kennywood in 1944, and sponsoring SNF College Scholarships to deserving students; and,

 

WHEREAS, the entire Serbian community is so proud to be a part of Pittsburgh’s Bicentennial Celebration 2016; and,
