Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby join with a host of colleagues and friends of Mery Womack to commend, recognize and congratulate her for 38 years of service to the County Controller's Office and the City through her foster parenting and neighborhood service; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 25th, 2016 to be "Mery Womack Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1978, Mery Womack started her career with the Allegheny County Controller’s Office, starting in the computer room during the night shift and eventually working for five different Controllers in a variety of positions for the next 38 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mery became a familiar face in the Controller’s Office and not only embodied the integrity and work ethic of the office, but also welcomed hundreds, if not thousands of employees over the years by snapping photographs to create their identification cards; and,

 

WHEREAS, in addition, Mery became a certified foster care parent nearly 40 years ago, and together with her husband Willie, fostered over 60 children in the Pittsburgh area and continues to do so.  In 2010, she received recognition from Children, Youth, and Family Services for 35 years of service; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mery is a long time member of the New Life Family Worship Center in Brighton Heights where her roles included Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, and Head Usher.  She is also in charge of the Annual Back to School Rally at the church, providing a day of food, fun and school supplies to neighborhood children; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mery had a major impact on the City and County over the years, both in the Controller’s Office and the community, her dedication, expertise, and cheerfulness at work will be sorely missed; and,
