WHEREAS, on July 1st, 1916, Dorothy “Dot” Amdur Grinberg was born in Pittsburgh, where she has lived consistently for 100 years; and,
WHEREAS, in 1937, she married Bernard J. Grinberg and together, they had 3 children: Richard, Bob, and Max and 4 grandchildren: Bryan, Edye, Barrie, and Jeremy; and,
WHEREAS, Dorothy’s motto and mission in life is “to leave the world a better place” and she has done exactly that during her century in Pittsburgh, touching the lives of people from all walks of life and all ages; and,
WHEREAS, Dot has been an active member of Rodef Shalom Congregation for decades and has contributed greatly to countless civic organizations throughout her years as President of Mt. Scopus Hadassah, a founding member of Gardens Unlimited, and corresponding secretary of the National Council of Jewish Women in Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Dot earned the Anne Copeland Award in honor of her tireless devotion to Pittsburgh’s Jewish community; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the lasting contributions Dorothy Grinberg has made on the Pittsburgh community over the last century and does hereby celebrate the occasion of her 100th birthday; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, July 1st, 2016 to be “Dorothy Amdur Grinberg Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
