WHEREAS, Roberta Stackawitz, born Roberta Ulis, was a life-long resident of the South Side; and
WHEREAS, Roberta was devoted to her late husband, Harry Stackawitz, and her loving sons, Harry and David Stackawitz; and
WHEREAS, Roberta was a teacher in the Catholic elementary school system, having worked at St. Casimir's School; and
WHEREAS, Roberta was a devoted member of the Lithuanian community of Pittsburgh, having belonged to the St. Casimir (Lithuanian) Parish as well as the Lithuanian Citizens Club on the South Side; and
WHEREAS, Roberta served first St. Casimir Parish and later after the consolidation of the South Side Parishes, the Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Christian Mother's Organization, and the Parish Council who loved her church congregation and attended daily mass and
WHEREAS, Roberta was involved with historic preservation in the South Side neighborhood, including saving the Oliver Bathhouse, the South Side Market House, and preserving the South Side branch of the Carnegie Library; and
WHEREAS, Roberta was always concerned about the South Side throughout her life, she served several terms as President of the South Side Community Council and several terms as President of the Friends of the South Side Library; and
WHEREAS, Roberta also served several terms on the South Side Planning Forum, the LTV Steering Committee, and the Board of Directors of the South Side Local Development Company; and
WHEREAS, Roberta loved travel and theater, having belonged to the Senior Theater Group at Robert Morris University; and
WHEREAS, Roberta was instrumental in raising money for South Side charities through the South Side Community Council's Ethnic Lunch and the annual Taste of the South Side event at the South Side Library; and
WHEREAS, Roberta was a strong, quiet, consensus-building leader who left an indelible mark on the South Side community.
