WHEREAS, City of Pittsburgh Parks, Pools, and other recreational assets are the City’s most outward facing City service; and

 

WHEREAS, according to the City of Pittsburgh 2016 Operating Budget, residents visited the City Pools 199,795 times in 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, identifying critical maintenance needs ahead of time and budgeting for these repairs to be completed proactively is a best management practice; and 

 

WHEREAS, City Pools are the definition of summer for thousands of Pittsburgh children and families, and are part of what makes Pittsburgh a most livable City.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH AS FOLLOWS: 

 

1.                     Pool and spray park inspections and repairs shall be scheduled and managed by the Department of Public Works.

2.                     All departments involved in the repairs of pools and spray parks shall meet immediately following the end of pool season in order to plan for the year ahead.

3.                     Pool and spray park inspections shall be completed before the end of March of each year, if not sooner depending on the weather. Repairs necessary to open the pool on time the following summer shall be identified and repaired in the off-season. 

4.                     Pool and spray park inspection data and reports shall be made public as part of the City’s Open Data initiative. 

5.                     Pool and spray park inspection reports dating back to 2012 shall be compiled and made public within 30 days.
