Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend DeVon Madden for his outstanding leadership ability and service to our students in Pittsburgh Public Schools and in their community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 14, 2016, to be "DeVon Madden Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, DeVon Madden is the founder and Executive Director of Shadow Student Athlete Development Services, Inc. and founder of Brothers of Christ (B.S.O.C.); and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Madden completed his undergraduate studies at Clarion University with a Bachelors of Science in Sports Management where he also was a former Linebacker. He also attended The College Education, the Mendoza College of Business at The University of Notre Dame with an advance certification in Strategies in Conflict Management; and,

WHEREAS, because of his education and athletic training, he knows the value of teamwork and what it takes to be a student athlete and thereby is able to fulfill the mission of Shadow Student Athletes by providing them with academic enrichment, character development, and preparing them for college by transitioning their competitive nature into a classroom setting; and,

WHEREAS, Shadow Student Athletes bridges the gap between academics, athletic and personal lives of students through academic programs such as A.I.M. Initiative which reduces suspensions and school-based arrests and implements positive alternatives to protect students' human rights to education, equality, and dignity and Camp F.U.N., a camp that provides opportunities to Hilltop school students to experience different neighborhood students, enhance their academic skills, fitness, and make community friends without the danger of being in an unsafe environment; and,

WHEREAS, DeVon also serves as a conflict specialist in Pittsburgh Public Schools to support school staff by modeling culturally specific mentoring practices, managing class transition periods and providing intensive support to students that build and develop social skills. In addition, he empowers parents to be equitable partners with school staff; and,

WHEREAS, to further his professional development, DeVon assumed a number of leadership roles with local and national organizations and has facilitated many seminars for educators...
