Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate Ed Gergerich for being a true champion of clean and beautiful neighborhoods; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 14th, 2016 to be "Ed Gergerich Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, we are fortunate enough to live in such a beautiful city, full of parks, forests, and gardens that make other communities green with envy, this comes with the commitment of constant upkeep; and,

WHEREAS, Edward T. Gergerich spends at least 500 hours a year designing, building, and maintaining community gardens and picking up litter throughout Brighton Heights, so that everyone passing by can enjoy a vista of colorful flowers, children in the neighborhood can skip, hop, play, and marvel at nature through the many paths he created; and,

WHEREAS, on every snow day throughout the winter months, Ed wakes early to shovel snow from the walks at the three corner bus stops by the portal gardens at the intersections of Brighton Heights Boulevard, Termon Avenue and California Avenue, continuing his neighborly commitment to the safety of pedestrians and school children; and,

WHEREAS, Ed was a proud traffic engineer for the City of Pittsburgh for many years, and his natural instinct to have gardens flow naturally and be sustainable comes from his creativity and skills as an engineer dealing with flow and efficiency of our city streets; and,

WHEAREAS, Ed is also a Eucharistic Minister doing home visitations and communion for the Catholic Church and has volunteered in many community theatre groups as an actor, singer, car parker and set builder with his daughters Anna, Maura, and his late wife Suzan; and,

WHEREAS, on May 19th, 2016, Ed was awarded the Bob Award for Volunteer of the Year by the Clean Pittsburgh Commission as an example of going above and beyond to keep the City, and his community a better place to live.
