Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Commander Ragland, and his detective team, Detectives Jeffrey Brock, Michael Mares, Dawn Mercurio, Eric Morton and Acting Detective David Derbish for their unselfish work and for putting their lives at risk for the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 7, 2016, to be "Zone 6 Plainclothes Detectives' Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Zone 6 Police Station is located in the West End and patrols the neighborhoods of Banksville, Chartiers City, Crafton Heights, East Carnegie, Elliott, Esplen, Fairywood, Oakwood, Ridgemont, Sheraden, South Shore, West End, Westwood, and Windgap within Council District 2; and,

WHEREAS, Zone 6 is the home of Detectives Jeffrey Brock, Michael Mares, Dawn Mercurio, Eric Morton and Acting Detective David Derbish who are the self-motivated individuals that comprise the Plainclothes Detective Squad; and,

WHEREAS, through their investigations over the last twelve months, the Squad has made over 150 arrests for crimes including Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, Strong Arm Robbery, Burglary, Home Invasions, Arson, Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act, Domestic Violence, Theft from Vehicles, Criminal Mischief, Animal Cruelty and various drug related crimes; and,

WHEREAS, the number of crimes solved by this team for Aggravated Assault and Robbery crimes were 65% and 45% respectively, which is well above the national averages for those crimes; and,

WHEREAS, in addition, the Plainclothes Detective Squad at Zone 6 has also recovered over $100,000 worth of stolen property during their investigations and seized 15 firearms; and,

WHEREAS, the cohesive and effective Detective Squad at Zone 6 capitalizes on each other's strengths and works tirelessly to ensure that individuals are held accountable for their crimes and crime victims obtain justice, which is why their ability to work as a team is one of their greatest assets; and,
