Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 110th anniversary of the Jewish Association on Aging and the organization's vital role in improving the lives of Pittsburgh's senior citizens; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 10th, 2016 to be "Jewish Association on Aging 110th Anniversary Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in 1906, Rabbi A.M. Askinksy established the Jewish Home for the Aged in Pittsburgh's Hill District with a mission to ensure that the elderly within the City's Jewish community had a chance to live happily and comfortably, and over a century later this mission lives on through the Jewish Association on Aging (JAA); and,

WHEREAS, JAA's residential and non-residential services, including skilled nursing & rehabilitation, personal care, hospice and Kosher Meals on Wheels, ensure that seniors lead safe, independent, healthy, and active lives; and,

WHEREAS, the JAA's commitment to community is exemplified through its Generation to Generation (G2G) program, which connects local student volunteers to elderly residents in need of assistance and promotes mutually beneficial social interaction; and,

WHEREAS, in partnership with Pittsburgh's booming medical industry and other national leaders, JAA is becoming a regional leader in memory care and service to senior citizens living with dementia and Alzheimer's disease, and in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Pittsburgh's technology sector, JAA is an active participant in the Quality of Life Technology Center whose mission is to develop technologies designed to improve the lives of the elderly; and,

WHEREAS, support from JAA's volunteers, donors, Board of Directors, passionate staff, and partners has enabled the organization to expand its scope and provide quality services to 2,000 seniors, regardless of their financial means.
