Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Debra James Bailey for her volunteerism and contributions to the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, June 1, 2016, to be "Debra James Bailey Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Debra James-Bailey is a true Pittsburgher who grew up in Manchester on the North Side, moved to Beltzhoover in August of 1965 , moved to Elliott in the late 60's and finally landed in Sheraden in March of 2006; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. James Bailey is a Database Coordinator at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Enrollment Services where she has also been the Central Blood Bank blood drive coordinator since 1988, helping to make Carnegie Mellon one of the leading universities in blood donations. Debra got involved in the blood drive after she became a survivor and recipient of blood transfusions, and views her work as a means of giving back; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to the blood drive, Debra has volunteered with the Western Pennsylvania Prison Society (1996-1998), American Civil Liberties Union as a 3-term board member (1999-2006), and she was Vice Chair of Police Affairs Pittsburgh Chapter of the NAACP for two terms (2002-2004); and,

WHEREAS, Ms. James Bailey became Secretary of the newly formed West End Alliance from 2012-2015 and is currently the Vice President of the South West Pittsburgh CDC (formerly West End Alliance) and is the current President of the Sheraden Community Council; and,

WHEREAS, Debra has received numerous awards from Carnegie Mellon University, including the Top Twenty Donor Program from the Central Blood Bank; she was nominated for the Andy Award for University Citizenship in 2002 and received an Honorary Carnegie Mellon University Alumna, Class of 1992; and,

WHEREAS, Debra holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Policy and is currently taking classes towards an MPM degree in the H.J. Heinz III College; and,
