Title: NOW, THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby call upon Rivers Casino to fulfill the promise of its Chairman and not hinder, obstruct, or otherwise impede the casino workers in their pursuit of a fair vote through the NLRB election process.

WHEREAS, workers at Rivers Casino are in the process of forming their union to achieve fair wages and fair working conditions through a vote conducted by the National Labor Relations Board; and

 

WHEREAS, the Chairman of Rivers Casino said in March that "we respect the rights of our employees to choose whether they want to have a union or not and have an election under the NLRB rules"; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh has twice unanimously declared it stands with the workers at Rivers Casino as they seek to exercise their rights in an environment free of harassment or intimidation so that the promise of good quality casino jobs may finally be delivered; and

 

WHEREAS, Rivers workers report that the company has recently intensified its intimidation tactics and has targeted Nepali-speaking employees, pressuring them to renounce their support for the union, and Rivers Casino has employed similar pressure tactics in previous efforts by workers to exercise their rights; and

 

WHEREAS, Rivers Casino now has the opportunity to begin anew and start repairing its relationship with our community by delivering on the promise that casino jobs would be good quality jobs;
