Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Jewish Family and Children's Service of Pittsburgh on its impact and imprint in the Pittsburgh region and congratulates Matthew Keller for receiving the Dr. Howard A. Mermelstein Award for his leadership and dedication to the agency; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 19, 2016 to be "JEWISH FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Pittsburgh is an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life of children, families and adults of all ages throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area by providing psychological, employment and social services; and,

 

WHEREAS, for over 78 years, JF&CS has continuously adapted their programs and services to meet the changing needs of their dynamic population, delivering essential psychological, employment and social services to alleviate hardship and support people in times of need and who are undergoing lifecycle transitions and crises; and,

 

WHEREAS, JF&CS will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, May 19th, 2016, focusing on how JF&CS builds on regional diversity and inclusion through providing innovative social services to the community.  There will be a multimedia exhibit aimed at education and inspiring our community about the newly-arriving refugees who call Pittsburgh home; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year, JF&CS will award the 2016 Dr. Howard A. Mermelstein Leadership Award to Board Member and At-large Officer Matthew A. Keller for his strong leadership, commitment to the community and dedication to the mission of JF&CS; and,
