WHEREAS, for almost 75 years, the Central Catholic High School Forensic Society (CCFS) has engaged in competitive Speech and Debate activities; and,
WHEREAS, the debate team of Will McCarthy and Luke Wearden of Central Catholic High School, coached by Brother Kevin Dalmasse FSC, recently won the state championship debate tournament by unanimous decision; and,
WHEREAS, this win represents more than a half-century of exceptional achievements, including National Championships, as well as Championships at the State, Regional and local levels; and,
WHEREAS, the CCFS recently celebrated its inaugural reunion, with a celebration attended by more than 125 Forensics alumni representing Championships stretching from 1958 through the present day; and,
WHEREAS, the celebration was attended by coaches representing a continuity from 1963 until the present day, with special recognition of the contributions of coaches such as Brother Gregory Rene Sterner (founder) and Eugene M. Kail; and,
WHEREAS, over the years, Central Catholic High School and the Central Catholic Forensic Society have developed an enviable and well deserved national reputation as a source of well researched, well informed, persuasive and civil public discourse; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby acknowledge and congratulate the Central Catholic Forensic Society on its latest state debate championship and its unparalleled contributions in support of civil public discourse; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 17, 2016, to be “Central Catholic Forensic Society Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
